ALBUS ENVIRONMENTAL – Aiding in the fight against the spread of Covid-19

February 15, 2021

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the world already faced challenges in the waste management sector. With this new and significant increase in waste production, containing the spread of this new virus has produced further pressures in not only the healthcare sector but across every aspect of our human lives due to the stockpiling of gloves, gowns, masks, protective clothing and equipment alongside sanitisation of the environment we live in, resulting in a waste emergency due to the unusual amounts of production of waste from both households and health facilities alike.

Failure to properly manage the waste generated from health facilities, households & businesses may escalate the spread of COVID-19 via secondary transmission and the potential to dump, open burn or incinerate could affect air quality and health outcomes due to the exposure of toxins that affect air quality and health outcomes. However, having the expertise and capacity to manage this burden is where Albus Environmental has proved to be a valuable partner, coming to the aid of businesses finding themselves literally buried under their excessive covid-19 waste.

Albus Environmental are very proud to share some of the great responses that we have received to date.

John S Glover, Managing Director of Bywaters (Leyton) Ltd commented:

“Bywaters is recognised as a long-term supplier to the NHS and the Company works very hard at going the extra mile, particularly during difficult times. Covid has led to the exponential creation of all forms of waste within the NHS, particularly all forms of clinical waste. During the Covid Crisis Bywaters has enlisted help and support from qualified and capable subcontractors, including Albus, and this accolade has been issued by GSTT”.

I just wanted to say thanks to your teams for stepping in and helping Guy’s & St Thomas’ with their clinical waste. I’m also aware that this isn’t the first time that the Albus teams have come to our rescue and wanted to make sure that you know that it is appreciated by my waste management team and the senior management team at GSTT. Keep safe and thank you”.

Jayne King – Head of Security & Site Services Operations
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

“We would like to thank you for your on-going support during the pandemic. It has been very helpful to have Albus helping us clear the backlog of additional clinical waste that we are having to deal with. This has enabled us to keep the waste flowing and allow the hospital to function during this difficult period. We have been impressed by the flexibility and prompt support we have received”.

Darren Little – Head of Security, Carparking and Sustainability NHS Royal Surrey

“Hope you and your team are keeping well. I would like to inform you that, The Highfield House Management team would like to say a Huge thank you to Gary, one of your Drivers who came to collect our Offensive waste this morning. He found clinical waste and offensive waste was mixed in all bins. We really appreciate that he came to the door to let us know and agreed to give us time to separate the bags and even assisted us to make it very quick”.

Ladan Nayebi – Senior clinical trainer Fairlie Healthcare

Henry Farmer, Head of Commercial, said:

“Businesses across the UK have played a very special and important role throughout this crisis, supporting their communities. The fact that Albus have been able to step up and assist not only existing clients but also step in as another emergency service to the healthcare sector to meet the needs of unprecedented waste production is a testament to the commitment and hard work of the whole Team at Albus Environmental”.
